To the Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish family,
Father Jim was given permission to release the name of the new Pastor of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish this past Sunday at Noon. We are pleased to share with you the good news that Father Stephen Durkee, the current Pastor of Saint Pius X in Grandville, will serve as our new Pastor.
We give thanks for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who led our Bishop and Diocesan leadership in discerning our Parish’s next Pastor. They made this decision with great care and consideration for the needs of our Parish, School, and community.
We must also take a moment to express our deep gratitude to Father James Chelich. Father Jim has led us with prayer, devotion, love, and wisdom for many years. His faithful service and pastoral heart have been a source of strength and inspiration, leaving a lasting impact on our community and on each of us personally.
The official transition will happen July 1. Father Jim will maintain the office of Pastor of Saint Thomas through June 30, 2025. Father Durkee will remain Pastor of Saint Pius X through June 30. He is in contact with Father Jim for information and assistance that will help him in the transition process.
As we look ahead, we do so in an attitude of prayer for our new Pastor. We are called to encourage Father Stephen as he courageously takes up his new mantle at Saint Thomas. Mindful of his own challenge of saying goodbye to his current community, please do not contact Father Stephen before July 1.
Many of the staff know Father Stephen to be a faithful, joyful, and humble servant of God. We are excited to welcome him and eager to celebrate the gifts God will bring to us through him.
