100 Years of ABCs F Finance Commitee – The finance committee was formed in 1968 after directive from Vatican II that recommended more lay participation in church operations. It consisted of a budget committee, a ways and means committee, and a contact committee. In 1969 the finance committee became part of the Penta-Council. Finance then became a committee of the Parish Council. In 1990 the Parish Council transitioned to two major advisory groups, resulting in the establishment of the Finance Council.
Fifty Plus Club – The Fifty Plus Club was started in 1973 by Ron and Jill Skinner to promote companionship, congeniality and good will among St. Thomas senior citizens. Over the years the group has enjoyed parties, picnics, theatre trips, holiday celebrations and, of course, celebrations of the Holy Mass. Members have also helped one another with rides to Mass, doctor’s appointments, shopping and other errands as well as prayed for one another. In 2013, the Fifty Plus Club changed their name to The Primetimers. In 2022 the group name was changed to OASIS – Older Adults Sharing Inspiring Serving. The OASIS group still remains active today following the same principles of companionship, congeniality and good will.
Father Chelich Way – At one of our auctions, bidders were able to ‘win’ the option of naming the road behind the Rectory and Church. The winners deemed the road “Father Chelich Way.”

St. Mary Recycle Mission Group Coming to Saint Thomas The St. Mary Recycle Mission Group will be coming to Saint Thomas next week to rescue and recycle used Religious items that are no longer needed. Over the last 30 years, they have helped recycle religious items from churches as well as from parishioners. They originally started after finding several items cleared out from a church basement in the dumpster of a local church all in perfectly usable condition. They later found there is a need for these unwanted items. Their first large effort was following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. They sent hundreds of recycled items to a parish and its parishioners. They can take in or give just about anything of religious nature that can be used by other churches, convents or religious organizations such as: – Crucifixes – Statues (any size, no outdoor concrete statues) – Rosaries (damaged ok) – Altar Books/Missals/Lectionaries – Holy Medals – Holy Cards – Framed Religious Pictures – Used Musical Instruments – Prayer books//Breviaries/Catholic Encyclopedias (Please No Religious Books/Reading Books/Story Books, Hymnals, Pamphlets/Magazines/DVD’s, VHS Tapes, Christmas items or Wax Candles) If you have anything you would like to donate to this project, please drop them off at the Parish Office by Thursday, November 21. Questions: Contact Pam Strobel at pamstrobel@stthomasgr.org.
